GPET GP Registrar of the Year 2004
Dr Fiona Christie joined Federation Clinic early in 2004 and quickly proved herself to be an outstanding registrar. In 2003 Fiona had won the DRANZCOG Award for Outstanding Achievement and in 2004 she was nominated for the General Practice Education and Training GP Registrar of the Year award not only for her ability as a general practitioner but also for her contribution as an educator and innovator.
After joining the practice Fiona introduced several IT advances including the creation of a customised webpage with links to important medical sites and the development of a laptop computer project which vastly improved information capture for home, nursing home and residential care visits by doctors.
Fiona joined the GP Obstetrics roster which was an immensely valuable contribution in a rural area. She also went out of her way to embrace a diversity of training opportunities attending intensive programs in depression and paediatrics. Within 4 months of joining the practice she had developed a Sex Education in Schools program and was involved in teaching medical and midwifery students.
After receiving the award Fiona continued to contribute to medical education in the area as the Registrar Liason Officer for Bogong GP Training, the GP training provider for North East Victoria. As part of this role she was actively involved in seminars in Melbourne and Sydney aimed at recruiting more junior doctors to GP training, especially in the Bogong area.
