Hills of Wodonga |
Wodonga, on the Victorian side, is one of the largest stock-selling and primary produce centres in Australia but in recent years has undergone a change of profile and rapid increase in population as a range of diverse industries have moved into the area.
Albury, in New South Wales, with a longer history as a hub for rail and riverboat traffic, has been more of the commercial and cultural centre with historic buildings and graceful tree-lined streets. Both cities have seen major renewal work on their town centres in recent years and have retained their individual identities while operating as a cohesive whole for the population. |
Complementing the physical landscape is a great climate – many dreary Melbourne days find crisp, clear winter sunshine on the border and in contrast to the humidity of Sydney, summer is mostly hot and dry. Most of the year’s weather encourages outdoor activity with plentiful alternatives within the towns and surrounding region.
Albury Wodonga is located on the Hume Freeway 3 hours north of Melbourne and 6 hours south of Sydney. Albury Airport provides multiple daily flights to Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and regional centres. Albury Wodonga is on the major rail link between Melbourne and Sydney. |
