INFECTION CONTROL

Development of systems to prevent cross infection has been a hallmark of Federation Clinic since its inception.
The building itself was carefully designed using the principles of infection control. The seven metre ceilings, open office plan, split waiting areas and refrigerated air-conditioning system, where air is not recirculated, are all features that minimise the spread of airborne micro-organisms.
Additional protection from infections contracted from hand-washing taps has been provided by the installation of electronic automatic taps in consulting rooms, treatment areas and toilets.
A waste system using colour coded bins has been established throughout the building, ensuring that clean waste is separated from contaminated waste at the point of production. This ensures that all staff members are protected from accidental exposure to contaminated materials. Another safety feature of this system is that the bins are housed in sliding drawers that are secured with child-proof magnetic latches.

Medical and Surgical procedures ensure patient and staff safety through strict adherence to infection control principles:
  • We use a combination of reusable and disposable instruments and sterile drapes.
  • All reusable instruments are cleaned immediately after use and then undergo a second washing and drying cycle prior to placement in special bags for sterilisation by autoclave.
  • A tracking system matches the particular sterilisation pack with the records kept in the machine, so we can always show that adequate sterilisation has occurred for all our instruments.
