MEN'S HEALTH
Promoting the health of our male patients is an important part of the role of the clinic. We are aware of the poor state of health of Australian males who significantly outnumber females in the number of deaths caused by cancer, heart disease, chronic lung disease, accidents and suicide.
Many premature male deaths are preventable by promotion of a healthy lifestyle and by prompt attention to symptoms when they are first noticed.
We are doing our part to correct this by encouraging men to attend for regular checkups that include assessment of:
- Heart disease risk factors - measurement of blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol and promotion of healthy eating and regular exercise.
- Skin for signs of skin cancer or changes that can lead to cancer.
- Prostate - looking for signs of enlargement or cancer.
- Sexual problems
- Mental health – checking for signs of Stress and Depression.
- Smoking and Alcohol intake and the signs of excessive use.
- Immunisation status – Tetanus boosters, Hepatitis B, influenza, pneumococcal vaccination.
Remember to ask for a longer appointment when booking for your checkup – it can’t be done in ten minutes!
