PGPPP TRAINING
Teaching for PGPPP Registrars is orientated towards helping the hospital-based doctor make the transition to practice in the community.
The registrar is strongly supported in the clinic and much of the teaching time in the early weeks consists of direct observation of supervisor by registrar and vice versa. Supervisors are available at all times to assist the registrar in management of their patients. Patient loads are kept low until the registrar is confident enough to be able to see more patients in a consulting session.
Teaching time allocation for each week is three hours and, as well as direct observation sessions, consists of specific teaching on topics common in general practice, such as management of Hypertension and Diabetes, assessment of the sick child and Chronic Pain management.
PGPPP registrars also attend release days conducted by Bogong Regional Training Network and take part in teaching sessions with other registrars in the program.
Like the Basic and Advanced registrars, the PGPPP registrar is able to visit community based health facilities such as the Parent and Babies Support Unit and Community Pharmacy.
